Both women share a common identity, but their story is no different.
Toledo, Ohio – “I’m one of the lucky few,” said London Neil. “I’ve never talked about coming out. Everyone knew, ‘Hey, this is it,’ ”said London Neil.
Neil believes in having a strong woman in her life by finding acceptance and love in her identity in her youth.
Today she is a mother, performer, and mentor to many other transgender women in the Toledo community.

“Trance isn’t just about how it looks, it’s what’s inside,” said Neil. “It’s more inside than outside, and I just told them, ‘Go out, buy new hair, buy new lipstick, just like you.
Nikki Orlowski is just one of many local transgender women who respect London.
Orlowski came out in his late twenties, so the trip is very different.
“It feels so good. It’s like taking a break,” she said. “Like I said, I’ve finally understood what happiness means.”
Orlowski’s lifelong passion was art, so we met in her studio in the Collingwood area. She grew up in Toledo and said she was the happiest ever but never an easy path.

“People on the street can get in the way of kids seeing me and stuff like that, so it’s kind of heartbreaking,” Orlowski said. “But at the same time, I’m very happy now.”
That is why they love to find moments of acceptance in the community.
“It’s the joy of being seen, being visible, being part of the community and not being chased off the streets,” said Neil.
“Some people are different from you, but that’s fine,” Orlowski said.
Nikki and London are just two examples of how transgender people have received.
According to London, it has been about three years since I was comfortable in my church.
Both recognize that there is still a lot of room for improvement.
