TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – You negotiate with barricaded suspects and find yourself in dangerous situations. The Toledo SWAT team is an elite unit and now they have added a new unit with six new members to the team.
The Tactical Medical Team was created after Officer Brandon Stalker was killed while on duty during a barricade situation.
Six officers certified as EMTs drive together with the SWAT team to make high-risk calls. They are experts in trauma medicine and triage, and they carry a medical bag with everything they need to save a life.
“When the SWAT team comes into play. Where the action is a hot zone, that will be for the tactical team, the members of the Swat team. In a warm zone we will either have a tactical medic from Toledo and maybe a CRU staff with helmets and body armor, ”said Captain Joe Heffernan.
The special unit was on the road with the SWAT team almost half a dozen times.
