CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Witnesses stepped in to help a pedestrian trapped between a building and a car that had lost control.

According to police, the driver of the car jumped the curb and hit the victim walking on the sidewalk.

19 investigators received recordings of the scene with a body camera.

“I yelled, just call 911,” said one witness.

Cleveland Police arrived on Pearl Road as rescue workers put the victim in their ambulance on June 9.

A witness told the officers, “It happened so quickly that she was right here on this lane and suddenly jumped over the curb.”

The driver of the car cries hysterically in the recordings of the body camera.

Her family said they do not speak English but told officers they said their hand slipped off the steering wheel and caused this.

“We ran here. The lady was beside herself. The driver was beside herself – we couldn’t control her, ”said the witness.

Then the good Samaritans took over.

“I was like pulling the car back! And she couldn’t, so I got in the car and pulled it back, ”said the witness.

This freed the victim who, according to the police report, luckily ended up with a broken leg.

In this case, the driver is accused of reckless driving.

As you can see in the recordings from the body camera, she stayed on site the entire time.

The police report said there was a surveillance video of the crash, but our request for public recordings for this footage was denied as it is part of the investigation.
