TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – The Toledo Human Relations Commission held a memorial to George Floyd in front of a mural in his honor on Sunday.

It is part of the Toledo, Take a Breath initiative, which encourages residents to reflect on their emotional wellbeing and spread hope in the community.

Community members were invited to bring candles or flowers to mourn the loss of George Floyd, who was killed by a former Minneapolis police officer last May, as well as other victims of police brutality. The ceremony takes place just days after a jury finds Derek Chauvin guilty of Floyd’s murder.

HRC said the memorial was a chance for the community to have a safe space to reflect and remember.

It takes place in front of the George Floyd mural near the intersection of Summit and Lagrange in Toledo until 3:00 p.m.
