Two Toledo Law enforcement officials assaulted, one other injured

Police say a suspect escaped after beating an officer and is now at large.

Two Toledo police officers were attacked on duty last weekend and another was punctured with a syringe.

Officers investigated a suspicious vehicle in the 5100 block on Lewis Avenue at around 12:30 p.m. Saturday. According to a police report, Rodney J. Coley Jr., 31, escaped from the vehicle and an officer identified as T. Toska attempted an arrest.

Toska was hit several times in the hand and forearm by the suspect. The officer suffered minor injuries but did not see a doctor.

Coley escaped and is at large. He left his driver’s license at the scene and was identified.

A pistol and magazine were found in Coley’s vehicle. According to the police, an arrest warrant will be issued.

In a separate incident on Sunday, officials responded to a domestic incident just after 1 a.m. in Block 5600 on Secor Road. When officers tried to separate the two parties, Andreas Wilburn, 34, bumped and kicked Officer Lawrence Shirley, according to a police report.

Shirley was not injured. Wilburn was assigned to Lucas County Jail and charged in court Tuesday morning with assaulting a peace officer.

Also on Sunday, Officer Michael Rickard was injured when he made an arrest at around 5 a.m. in the 1300 block on Walbridge Avenue.

Brandon Bork, 24, was arrested on an arrest warrant, according to a police report. Rickard found an open-ended syringe in Bork’s possession that stuck him.

Bork was booked into the Lucas County Jail.
