Toledo householders can apply for mortgage help

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – More than one and a half million dollars is earmarked for Toledo homeowners struggling to pay their mortgages. The money will be provided as part of the emergency mortgage support program announced by Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz during his State of the City 2021 speech.

Interested parties must first qualify, then be selected by lottery.

The Department of Neighborhoods of the City of Toledo will be distributing $ 1,526,505 in funds from the Community Development Block Grant-CV. The money is divided among a total of 150 households classified as low-income or moderate. Here are the criteria set by the city:

To be eligible, the following guidelines must be met:

• The applicant must own a residential property with 1 to 4 units in Toledo.
• The owner must have at least one unit as their primary residence.
• The owner must have a real estate lien or primary mortgage with an forbearance or an overdue balance due to COVID-19.
• The mortgage must have been current as of February 29, 2020.
• The property may not be offered for sale.
• Applicant’s household must demonstrate a loss of income due to COVID-19.
• Applicants’ households must have a maximum household income of 80 percent or less AMI.

A city of Toledo press release said: “Mortgage assistance will last for up to six consecutive months, including forbearance, overdue balances, late fees and penalties. Taxes and insurance can be paid if they are included in the regular mortgage payment. Residents can submit one application per accommodation. The applicants’ gross household income must not exceed the mean area income of 80 percent. Applications are accepted, processed and approved as part of a lottery. “

The time slot to apply for the mortgage assistance program is Monday, March 29th at 9:00 am and Friday, April 9th, 4:30 pm. Applications must be submitted electronically to toledo.oh.gov/mortgage. You can also email questions to [email protected] or call 419-245-1435.
