TOLEDO, Ohio – It’s a great honor for a longtime veteran of the Toledo Fire & Rescue Department.
On Friday, Fire Fighter Scott Hathaway was presented the # 1 Badge by Toledo Fire Chief Brian Byrd.
Hathaway is the oldest private individual at TFRD, having spent 33 years in the job. He is an advanced EMT and certified fire instructor in the state of Ohio. Hathaway has taught three recruiting classes and will be the instructor for the upcoming recruiting class in April 2021.
He was a member of the diving team for 10 years and a HAZMAT technician for 15 years.
Badge No. 1 is intended for the most senior firefighter in the department. After retirement, the next oldest firefighter swaps his ID number for ID No. 1.
Hathaway will wear the # 1 badge until he retires from the department.
