Cleveland, Ohio – The Youngstown State softball team extended their winning streak to six with a double-header sweep over Cleveland State, 8-1 and 9-1 in five innings on Tuesday afternoon at Viking Field.
With the sweep, the Penguins improve to 20-8 overall and 13-3 in the Horizon League, while the Vikings drop to 9-19 overall and 4-13 in the league game.
Senior You Buffenbarger spun another dominant performance in circles and threw a full three-hit game with 12 strokes to improve to 9-3 year-on-year.
Senior Nikki Saibene went 3-on-4 with one doubles and two runs beaten as a freshman Jillian Jakse also went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Senior Maddi Lusk was 2 against 4 with two runs scored.
Youngstown State, who had 10 hits, scored three runs in the first, two in the third, one more in the fourth, and two more in the sixth.
In the second game Saibene went 2: 3 with two RBIs Avrey Schumacher had two hits and drove in one run to lead the penguins offensively. YSU scored twice in the first and once in the second and used a third inning with six runs to put the game out of reach.
Lusk took her ninth win of the season by throwing a two-hitter with three strikeouts.
Youngstown State returns home to host Green Bay in a four-game series on the YSU softball field April 9-10. The first place on Friday is set to 3 p.m.
