“I would never have been head coach if UNCG Chancellor Linda Brady and our Athletics Director Kim Record hadn’t given me a chance to become head coach. I will be forever in debt. Frank Gilliam came five years later as Chancellor and allowed me to continue To be the head coach and move our program forward, I’m forever in debt.

“I’m proud, deeply proud of what we’ve built at UNCG over the past 10 years. It has been difficult to get the job done every day. We weren’t in a good place when we started and I’m proud We built something there that was sustainable for over 10 years. As great as this place is, it wasn’t easy to go and the reason it wasn’t easy to go was because of the people. For my former players love me you guys, I wouldn’t get up here without you guys. You will always be my guys. And I expect you guys to come to Cincinnati in Bearcat gear and feel part of what we’re doing to move forward … .

“When I was 28, I was very lucky to get a job. I didn’t know what I was doing. I had no experience. I knew about basketball and felt good when I coached basketball. But what it meant to be responsible to be and to lead. ” The first three years at UNCG after the interim coaching year (2011-12) were extremely difficult. We have failed miserably. But when I look back on that experience, a lot of things we value and believe in, how we play, how we interact with people, how we build relationships, how we hire, how we put people together – a lot of what we go through Have learned failures. We have learned Many trainers in our profession cannot make such mistakes and learn and grow from them. I’m really happy that I had a leadership role at UNCG at a young age that kept me working. I really appreciate the ups and downs of the past 10 years and we have been fortunate that the last five or six that we have a lot more highs than had lows. “:
