Masterworks Chorale of Toledo internet hosting digital live performance

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – As with most organizations during the COVID-19 pandemic, Masterworks Chorale of Toledo had to adapt to a socially distant way of life.

On Sunday fans can enjoy the fruits of their labor. Masterworks Chorale organizes its virtual chamber concert via live stream. It’s set for 3 p.m. YouTube page. The performance will be the first virtual concert.

To ensure the safety of its members, Masterworks Chorale began rehearsing in their cars throughout the winter by wirelessly connecting to a radio mixer. The singers recorded the sessions to bring the virtual performance to life on Sunday.

“Masterworks Chorale’s mission is to connect lives through choral music, and we took that particularly seriously this year because we have such a need for connection,” said Tim Cloeter, Artistic Director of Masterworks Chorale Toledo. “These drive-in sessions gave our singers a deep dive, and I hope this life stream brings some of the hope we felt when we found a way to do the impossible and that kind of hope in our audience to wake up too. “

During the recording sessions, Cloeter conducted from an upstairs window of the First United Methodist Church in Perrysburg while the singers were parked in the parking lot below.

“There is no contact between the singer and the director,” Cloeter told 13abc in December. “There is nobody upstairs to take care of the microphones or the electronics. We really found a way we can separate that and cut all transmission lines. “

Fans can listen to the ensembles perform 19 songs originally recorded from members’ cars at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. The meeting was originally scheduled for March 28, but had to be postponed after an employee developed symptoms of COVID-19.
