Youngstown rock band releasing new album Saturday

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – It’s a big weekend for The Vindys – the Youngstown rock band released their new song “Bugs” on Friday, which is also the title track of their new album and will be released on Saturday.

They perform at the Youngstown Amphitheater on Saturday night. The Vindys held a rehearsal Friday night in a former warehouse on Youngstown’s Lower West Side.

Lead singer Jackie Popovec led the band through their new song “Bugs”.

“It’s a next level maturity from The Vindys,” said Popovec.

The result of this maturity is the 10-song album.

“It really has a nice balance of what you’d expect from The Vindys, but a little more,” said guitarist Rick Deak.

The album was recorded in early 202 at Court Street Recording Studio in Canfield. The pandemic delayed the release. Before that, Popovec had written most of the songs and the band did their own overdubs. But their new album is more of a collaboration between all band members and some external professionals.

“This guy Ryan West who is now a New York-based producer worked with Jay-Z and Eminem. He mixed one of the tracks. So having ears like that on a record makes a huge difference, ”said drummer Ed Davis.

“So I would say that this time we trust each other a lot more with our sound and now we know exactly what to expect from a Vindy’s sound,” said Popovec.

“Bugs” is about Popovec’s voice and lyrics.

“The band doesn’t exist around them. We’d probably do something completely different, ”said Davis.

“In my opinion she has that it-factor and she just has a powerful voice,” said Deak.

The Vindy’s have grown into a popular regional band – but what does it take to go national?

“The trick to just being successful as a musician in general is to just do it,” said Popovec.

“If we keep doing the shows we do, it’ll just happen little by little, and there’s no stopping it at that point,” Deak said.
