CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Detectives are asking the community to come forward and identify the wanted man who smashed a car window, stole the wallet in it, and used the victim’s credit cards, according to the Cleveland Division of Police Second District Community Relations Committee.
Police said the car was broken into at around 12:30 p.m. on July 7 in the Henninger Road and Pearl Road area while the owner was walking in Brighton Park.
She had been gone 15 minutes when, according to police, she returned to find that her passenger window had been smashed and her backpack had been stolen.
Her wallet with personal information, credit cards, $ 900 cash and a bank check for $ 150 was in the stolen backpack, police said.
Police said she received a cell phone notification about an hour later stating that her credit cards had been used to purchase $ 620 worth of gift cards at Target in Steelyard Commons.
The suspect was described by police as a man in his mid to late 30s wearing a black shirt with a red design, blue and white Nike basketball shorts, and black Nike sandals with black socks.
According to police, the same suspect was spotted buying additional gift cards at Target on July 5.
A surveillance video showed him searching multiple credit cards to see which worked until “his purchase was successful,” police said.
According to the police, this time he was wearing a white shirt, black shorts and white shoes.
According to police, he drives a newer pickup truck that may be a Ford F150.
