CHICAGO – One person fatally shot by police in Little Village A 13-year-old boy was identified during what the police called an “armed confrontation”.
He was identified Thursday by the Cook County’s medical examiner’s office as Adam Toledo, 13, of Little Village.
Toledo was shot and killed by a Chicago police officer early Monday after police responded to an exchange of fire.
In a statement, police said the officers responded to a ShotSpotter alarm at around 2:35 a.m. and saw two men standing in an alley in the Southwest Side neighborhood.
An armed person ran away from the scene and was shot in the chest by a police officer during an “armed confrontation” on the 2300 block on South Sawyer Avenue, police said. This person, later identified as Toledo, died on the scene.
The other person, who also fled the police, was arrested and is facing a crime for resisting arrest, police said.
Police shared a photo of a gun that was allegedly recovered from the scene.
The officer was put at the desk for 30 days while the Civil Police Responsibility Department investigates the shooting, police said.
COPA has not released any details about the incident. A COPA spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Thursday morning.
