CLEVELAND, Ohio – Infielder Owen Miller and Gabriel Arias are among 31 players named to the Cleveland Indians alternate squad, which will train at Huntington Park in Columbus through the start of the minor league season in May.
Miler and Arias, both of whom were acquired in the Mike Clevinger deal of San Diego last season, both turned their heads with their offensive in spring training. Miller hit .390 with a .932 OPS and six RBI in 41 bats over 24 games. Arias was one of the stars in the early part of the camp, hitting 0.615 with 1.308 OPS and five RBI in 13 bats in eight games.
The club released its alternative location plan ahead of the season opener on Thursday in Detroit in addition to the five-person taxi team that will travel with the team to street games.
Left reliever Anthony Gose and outfielder Harold Ramirez belong to the taxi squad along with catcher Ryan Lavarnway, infielder / outfielder Ernie Clement and reliever Kyle Nelson.
According to Chris Antonetti, India’s president for baseball operations, alternate participants will play up to four games per week against other major league deep-camp teams in April. Travel by bus is limited to teams in drivable locations such as Toledo and Louisville.
Pitcher Scott Moss (neck) and Eli Morgan (forearm pain) stayed behind at the club’s Goodyear training complex. Catcher Beau Taylor could join the alternate site group if he picks up waivers and takes an assignment there later next week.

Catchers: Gavin Collins, Ryan Lavarnway, Mike Rivera, Eric Rodriguez.
Jugs: Robert Broom, Joey Cantillo, Kyle Dowdy, Sam Hentges, DJ Johnson, Kirk McCarty, Jean Carlos Mejía, Nick Mikolajchak, Blake Parker, Nick Sandlin, Dalbert Siri, Tanner Tully, Daniel Young.
Infielder: Gabriel Arias, Bobby Bradley, José Fermön, Nolan Jones, Tyler Krieger, Owen Miller.
Outfielders: Daniel Johnson, Oscar Mercado, Connor Marabell and Bradley Zimmer.
