I-75 visitors jam close to downtown Toledo

This closure was not planned and is likely to cause travel delays.

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) crews reduced I-75 north to downtown Toledo to one lane on Wednesday evening.

ODOT spokeswoman Rebecca Dangelo explains that construction crews found a “dam problem” that she named.

“On the other side of the river, if you’re heading north while crossing the river, the crews have seen some issues with the bank, so we’re just being proactive,” explains Dangelo. “We want to make sure we’re taking the right steps.”

Says Dangelo, “Every time there is a bridge, there is this earthwork that is being built on both sides of the bridge. This earth on the north side of the Maumee River Bridge is where we see some of those concerns.”

In the best case scenario, according to Dangelo, the crews will carry out repairs on Thursday and get traffic going in two lanes. Then engineers will evaluate the embankment. Dangelo says it’s worth saving, it’s closed for a couple of days.

“Obviously, the timing of the Solheim Cup is not ideal,” said Dangelo. “It is very unfortunate that we found this problem now in the Solheim week. We try to be proactive, we don’t want anything to happen.”
