Gophers Wrap Up Competitors in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The # 18 gopher rowing program resumed today at the Big Ten / ACC regatta hosted by the state of Ohio at the Griggs Reservoir in Columbus, Ohio.

Minnesota, which faced nationally ranked opponents in No. 3 Virginia, No. 6 Ohio State, and No. 10 Duke, was led by a First Varsity Eight runner-up in the opening session, riding the best Duke at 7:05:15 (7: 08.88) and behind Ohio State (6: 57.60). The Gophers First Varsity Eight Boat also achieved third place in the following session with a time of 6: 53.87 behind Ohio State (6: 38.10) and Virginia (6: 42.49).

Minnesota’s Second Varsity Eight Boat took two third places on Saturday, finishing its first race of the day behind Virginia (6: 56.50) and Ohio State (7: 01.10) in 7: 20.20, adding a time of 7: 1 added. 38.98 in the second race behind Ohio State (7: 16.0) and Duke (7: 22.52).

The Maroon & Gold First Varsity Four boat drove a time of 8: 13.48 to Ohio State (7: 56.00) and Virginia (8: 00.52) in the opening session on Saturday, and followed with a performance of 8: 23.38 Duke (8: 17.3) and Ohio State (8: 19.91)

After this weekend’s competition in Ohio, the Gophers will be back in action with the first B1G Invitational in Bethel, Ohio April 17-18. The B1G Invitational will be held on Harsha Lake and will include 16 rowing teams of college women and over 600 athletes. Eight Big Ten schools will attend the spring event, including Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Rutgers, and Wisconsin. Visiting teams outside of the Big Ten are expected to include Alabama, Brown, Duke, Louisville, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Tennessee, and Virginia. The training sessions will take place on April 16. With three race laps in the course of the event, more than 70 races will be held over the weekend.
