CLEVELAND, Ohio – Shane Bieber kicks off his third career against Seattle on Sunday. He is 1-0 with 1.32 ERA over his first two appearances against the Mariners. Cleveland has won both of Bieber’s starts against Seattle and last won 2-1 on April 16, 2019 at T-Mobile Park in Progressive Field.
Bieber has beaten more than 80 batters in his first eight starts in the last two seasons (84 in 2020 and 85 SO in 2021). The only other pitchers to have spiked more than 80 from eight starts in two consecutive years are Pedro Martinez (three in a row, 1999-2001) and Randy Johnson (2000-2001). His 584K through 74 career games are the third highest of all time, behind Dwight Gooden (593) and Yu Darvish (607).
