YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Little Fighting Redmen Football Program has been around for 50 years, and Last week they said they needed money for equipment.
This call for help was answered on Monday.
The program is about more than just football – with all the violence going on in the city, the organizers hope to be a positive figure in the lives of the children growing up in the city.
Youngstown United As One donated $ 250 as well as Gatorade, water bottles, and mouthpieces to the program.

“What you see is a positive influence, like a big brother. This is how they see that they are supported by the community. It’s a good feeling, they’re going to see it, and it’s just a good learning experience, ”said Darrell Jones, President of United as One.
Shortly thereafter, the Respect Basketball League commissioner surprised the program with a donation of $ 500. The basketball league raises $ 3,000 for the Redmen.
These funds go to an account at Wharmby Sports in Liberty so that players can get what they need for the season.
“When you have positive things and positive people in your life and people who show they care, it will make a difference,” said Randy Nuby, Commissioner for Respect.
The aim is to teach the children important aspects of life such as discipline, listening, family orientation and standing up for your team through football, so that they can take these qualities with them as they get older.

“My goal is not to abandon any child. I’ll do what I have to do to find out something so I can stop these kids from running around doing negative things, ”said Redmen soccer coach and president Justyn Glover.
He is grateful for the support the program is receiving.
“That’s what we need, we have to start showing more unity in this city,” said Glover.
