Cleveland State Baseball Splits With Columbia State

Cleveland state baseball shared two games at Cougar Field with Columbia state on Sunday afternoon. The Cougars are now 2-2 in the season.

In the first game of the set, the Cougars beat the Chargers in a 4-3 thriller. The Cougars went 3-1 into the seventh inning until Lance Dockery drove into both Bryce Jenkins and Matt Schultz to finish the game at three runs apiece. Dockery then scored the game-winning run with one mistake after stealing third place and was one on two with two RBIs, one run scored, and two runs in the game.

Jacob Robinson had the Cougars’ other RBI and was one to three with a run score. In terms of pitching, Dayton Wisley provided the Cougars with a solid outing as a starter with five innings of three runs, two strikeout baseball. Jared Young took the win from the bullpen, threw two innings, did not allow any runs and knocked out two batters.

In the second game of the double header, Cleveland State fell 15-4 in five innings. Dockery recorded a multi-hit game in which two runs were two runs from the plate. Caden Smith also drove a run for the Cougars, going one on three off the plate, while Stokes Needham was one on two, scoring a run.

Cleveland State will be back in action on Wednesday as Volunteer State takes place there. The double header with the pioneers should start at 1 p.m.
