CLEVELAND (AP) – Adam Wainwright won on his debut at Progressive Field, Paul DeJong kicked off and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Cleveland Indians 4-2 on Tuesday night.

DeJong’s two-out, two-run drive in the seventh inning gave St. Louis a 3-2 lead. Harrison Bader homered, doubled down twice and stole a base as the Cardinals fell over .500 at 51-50.

Wainwright (8-6) went seven innings and earned his 175th career win. This was the 33rd stadium he played in during the regular season.

The 39-year-old Wainwright gave up four hits, including a double homer to Jose Ramirez. He struck eight and went two.

Alex Reyes made his 24th save on 25 occasions.

DeJong met Bryan Shaw (3-5). St. Louis ticked an insurance run in its ninth year when rescuer Phil Maton escorted Dylan Carlson with loaded bases.

Bader has scored multiple hits in six of his last eight games, hitting .384 (28 for 73) since returning from a broken rib on July 1.

Ramirez gave Cleveland a 2-1 lead with his 21st homer in fourth place. The Indians lost 16 out of 23 and dropped to seventh place in the AL wildcard race, potentially making them a seller heading into the trading deadline on Friday.

Cal Quantrill hit his season high with six innings for Cleveland and allowed four hits, including Bader’s Homer. The right-hander has not lost in nine starts since June 6th.

Wainwright and 10-time All-Star Molina made their 293rd start as battery mates, finishing fourth all-time. Molina went 0 for 4 after three games of absence with a stiff neck.

Indian manager Terry Francona returned to the dugout after missing the last two games with a cold. Francona is six wins away from breaking Hall of Famer Lou Boudreau’s franchise record of 728 victories.

Cardinals manager Mike Shildt will set up a four-man rotation at short notice, using three days off within eight days. RHP Johan Oviedo was given an option for Triple-A Memphis but is likely to return to St. Louis if he competes on August 5th.

RHP Jack Flaherty, who has been on the injured list since June 1 with an oblique strain, canceled three goalless innings for Memphis on Tuesday and could be activated in mid-August.

Cardinals: RHP Miles Mikolas (Right Forearm Tight) will make his second rehab start for Triple-A Memphis on Thursday. Mikolas retired all nine thugs he faced on 29 pitches on Saturday in Louisville.

Indians: RHP Cam Hill (right wrist surgery), who is on a long rehab assignment with Triple-A Columbus, has allowed six runs in his last two appearances and recorded a total of three outs.
