US Customs and Border Protection officials in Cincinnati said they recently stopped an illegally imported shipment of more than 40 pounds of Viagra pills and an additional 36 pounds of “wonder honey”.
Wonder honey is honey that is mixed with sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, said customs in a press release on the seizure on February 4th.
The press release stated that a shipment of herb noodles from Istanbul, Turkey, contained approximately 17,400 Viagra pills and was directed to a person in Florissant, Missouri.
Had the drugs been sold legally, the pills and honey would have had a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of more than $ 1.2 million.
“Our highly qualified officers remain focused on our mission to protect our country and its citizens,” said Richard Gillespie, Port Director of Cincinnati, in the press release.
“(Customs) is working closely with (the Food and Drug Administration) and other partner agencies to carry out this mission to ensure controlled substances with unknown additives or poor standards do not end up in American households.”
