Protestors Bear in mind Duante Wright and Adam Toledo At A Vigil In Liemert Park Sunday Night time – CBS Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – Protesters gathered in Liemert Park in south LA to hold a candlelight vigil for two of the recent police killings involving men of color, 20-year-old Duante Wright from Minnesota and 13-year-old Adam Toledo from Chicago were.

The vigil takes place while many people across the country wait for a judgment in the EU Trial of Minnesota Police Officer Derek Chauvin who is charged with second degree murder and third degree murder in the death of George Floyd last May.

The final arguments are scheduled for Monday April 19th. The jury will be discussed immediately afterwards.

For some people at the Liemert Park vigil, these recent events are just another painful reminder of Floyd’s death last year.

“There is an epidemic of police brutality that disproportionately affects black and brown men. Every time a new name comes up, my heart breaks and I just wanted to show my support in every possible way,” said Gavin Hickson, who attended attends the vigil on Sunday. said Laurie Perez of CBSLA.

Social justice activist Shelley Bruce said she wasn’t sure how she would react to the chauvinist ruling if it were passed, but whatever it is, she doesn’t think it will stop police violence.

“I could almost cry right now because I know my community is in more pain,” Bruce told CBSLA. “Regardless of what happens in this process, I don’t think it will be the last time we see someone in our community killed by the police.”
