In the week leading up to Sunday, Ohio new coronavirus cases rose 43.7% as 2,842 cases were reported. In the previous week there were 1,978 new cases of the virus that causes COVID-19.
Ohio was ranked 35th among states where coronavirus spread fastest per person, according to an analysis by the USA TODAY Network of data from Johns Hopkins University. Last week, coronavirus cases in the United States rose 66% from the previous week, with 226,012 cases reported. At 3.51% of the country’s population, Ohio had 1.26% of the country’s cases last week. Across the country, 50 states had more cases in the past week than the week before.

Many places reported no cases and deaths around July 4th, which would shift those cases into the following week and make week-to-week comparisons inaccurate.
Franklin County reported 286 cases and four deaths in the past week. A week earlier, it had reported 203 cases and four deaths. 129,725 cases and 1,491 deaths were reported during the pandemic.
Delaware County reported 48 cases and zero deaths in the past week. A week earlier, it had reported 39 cases and zero deaths. 19,013 cases and 137 deaths were reported during the pandemic.
Fairfield County reported 39 cases and one death in the past week. A week earlier, 33 cases and one death had been reported. 16,678 cases and 207 deaths were reported throughout the pandemic.
Licking County reported 37 cases and zero deaths in the past week. A week earlier, it had reported 18 cases and zero deaths. 16,754 cases and 226 deaths were reported during the pandemic.
Pickaway County reported 15 cases and zero deaths in the past week. A week earlier, it had reported 12 cases and zero deaths. 8,708 cases and 122 deaths were reported during the pandemic.
Union County reported 14 cases and zero deaths in the past week. A week earlier, it had reported nine cases and zero deaths. 5,882 cases and 49 deaths were reported during the pandemic.
Ohio had the worst weekly outbreaks per person in Counties Muskingum, Gallia, and Lawrence. Most of the total new cases were Cuyahoga County with 309 cases; Franklin County with 286 cases; and Montgomery County at 229. Weekly case numbers were up in 60 counties from the previous week. The worst increases from the previous week’s pace were in Cuyahoga, Montgomery and Franklin counties.

Ohio ranked 35th among states for the proportion of people who received at least one vaccination, with 49% of residents being at least partially vaccinated. The national rate is 56%, according to a US TODAY analysis of the CDC data. The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, which are most commonly used in the United States, require two doses given a few weeks apart.
In the week that ended Sunday, Ohio reported that an additional 77,923 vaccine doses were administered, including 36,577 first doses. In the previous week, the state administered 78,432 vaccine doses, including 32,612 initial doses. In total, Ohio reported that it delivered 10,913,658 total doses.
Across Ohio, cases fell in 23 counties, with the best declines in Coshocton, Paulding, and Monroe counties.
In Ohio, 57 people were reported dead from COVID-19 in the week ending Sunday. In the previous week, zero people were reported dead.
A total of 1,117,109 people in Ohio have tested positive for the coronavirus since the pandemic began, and 20,437 people have died from the disease, data from Johns Hopkins University shows. In the United States, 34,079,960 people tested positive and 609,019 people have died.
