TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Jo’von Porter, better known for his rap name De De Porter, was shot dead last week.
It happened on West Central Avenue near ProMedica.
His mother, Abena Rowland, says he lived his childhood dream as a rap artist.
“He loved his music. He’s had a notebook with him since he was a kid and I thought if you don’t put that notebook away … He wasn’t a real speaker, he was a real thinker. “
His mom says he should shoot a video in Atlanta, launch his clothing line, and probably sign a deal.
“So he was really excited. He said to me the other day, “Mom, I think this is it” and I said it is. “
The police have no motive or suspect for the deadly shooting.
Porter’s passenger Leon Johnson was interviewed by police as a witness.
He wasn’t hurt.
Porter’s mother says De De’s little cousin is devastated. He was with him in face time when the SUV was shot.
“He said he had just finished his pizza and talked to me. He heard all the pop pop pop pop pop and then he saw blood or he saw the phone fall. He never heard my son roar, but he knew it. He just started screaming and screaming and calling his mom. “
His murder stunned his fans.
“Let the police do their job. That is their job, that is their business. He just doesn’t like drama and that’s why I know who he is and I don’t like drama so I don’t even want to hear anything. I know the police will do their job. “
His mom told me that she will be done with launching his clothing line.
“What he has for his children – this clothing line and his music – we will continue to make sure that it is not for free.”
