The CM33 Washdown and CM35 Washdown combination systems are aimed at manufacturers of packaged food, including dairy products, who require a fast cleaning, advanced contamination detection and precision weighing solution.
The CM33 Washdown is based on the C33 PlusLine Washdown checkweigher announced in 2020, but with an integrated metal detector from the Profile system family from Mettler-Toledo. It is suitable for operation in the medium frequency range and a throughput of up to 250 weighings per minute with a weighing accuracy of up to +/- 0.2 g. With the CM35 Washdown, manufacturers receive a system that enables a high frequency range and high sensitivity.
To complete their combination CM33 Washdown or CM35 Washdown, customers can choose one of three Mettler-Toledo Profile metal detectors made of stainless steel. These are the Profiles Combi LS (for applications with small, packaged products), Profile Advantage (maximum sensitivity for demanding applications) and Profiles R / RZ (advanced inspection of bulk and dry product applications).
As with the C33 PlusLine Washdown checkweigher and the C35 AdvancedLine Washdown checkweigher, the combination of CM33 Washdown and CM35 Washdown reduces cleaning downtimes thanks to its hygienic design. This makes them suitable for applications that require rigorous cleaning procedures with caustic detergents to combat bacterial contamination risks without compromising weighing accuracy and detection sensitivity. Possible applications are yoghurt pots and cheese bowls without aluminum foil lids. These are the applications where ingredients can spill over and contaminate parts of the product inspection machine, requiring rugged cleaning.
A quick and efficient cleaning is supported by the sloping surface design of the washdown systems, which prevents the accumulation of liquids or dirt. Protection against intrusion is also an important design factor: the CM33 Washdown and CM35 Washdown and their human-machine interfaces (HMIs) are IP69-certified and are therefore able to withstand most corrosive cleaning agents and disinfectants. Together, these hygienic design features reduce the number of downtime required to efficiently complete cleaning programs.
Components like the metal detector conveyor belt and product collection bin are easy to dismantle and reassemble, while tool-free maintenance ensures an even longer uptime. A self-adjusting elastic belt eliminates the need for tensioning and ensures that the belt is properly aligned in the center of the conveyor. This helps reduce the possibility of belt damage and subsequent unexpected downtime. Customers can choose from a number of options for handling rejected products, including a tunnel for under- and overweight products, as well as rotary valve, air-jet and push mechanisms.
Additional time is saved by storing order parameters in the HMI, which can be called up immediately for the automatic order setup on the checkweigher and the metal detection system. Up to 250 recipes can be stored in the HMI and, if necessary, an additional memory can simply be provided for further recipes.

Mettler-Toledo began developing combined product inspection systems in response to customer problems such as the difficulty of integrating all of the required inspection technologies into limited factory space. The cornerstone of these product innovations is Mettler-Toledo’s modular C-Series checkweighers, which allow flexibility in the integration of other product inspection technologies. In addition to metal detection, the Mettler-Toledo combination systems can also include X-ray, vision inspection and track-and-trace technology.
The integration not only includes hardware, but also software. As with other combination systems, the CM33 Washdown and CM35 Washdown have two HMIs running in parallel – one for the checkweigher and one for the metal detection system – which communicate with one another and give the combination systems built-in redundancy. If one HMI fails, the other automatically takes over so that there is no unnecessary downtime and all critical control points continue to function.
