Marie A. (Kozbial) Terry

Marie Terry was 92 and is my mother. She was born in Toledo and was the second child of Maria and Walter Kozbial, immigrants from Poland who started Toledo’s Daylight Bakery. Mom loved to laugh and could turn any situation into something humorous. She always started a conversation with a complete stranger as if they both knew each other and when the giggles finally stopped, they did! She lived like this every day until Easter Sunday morning when she suffered a stroke and was taken to the emergency room where she was given a drug that caused severe anaphylactic shock. She was immediately intubated and coma induced. She stayed there for the next 14 days of her life, and although she had lived with me for over three years, those last 14 days were some of the most precious that my God could have given us. During all this she remembered everything and everyone. She answered yes and no questions even though she could not speak and because she had limited limb movement, she pointed and waved her feet at me and commented on conversations by raising her eyebrows or frowning.

During this time we received gifts from the heart and soul that I can only call priceless.

In those last days together, we finally realized that everything that had happened in our lives was now turned into an eternal blessing. But above all, we have now understood that WE have actually become this “blessing” for one another. Each of us had become the epitome of the love that we as parents, children and best friends had always longed for and that could now or never separate us. I am so grateful for this time together because its depth of strength and love will live in me forever.

Her husband, Melvin Terry, had been preceded by a new existence. her brother and sisters-in-law John Terry, Dorothy Rogers, and Lynn Weiland; her brothers Walter and Paul Kozbial; her mother and father Maria and Walter Kozbial Sr. and the firstborn child Christine.

Mother will be missed forever by her daughter Dawyn (Ted) Boyer; and a “flat-butt dog” named Ella; she had a son, Christopher (Jean); Grandchildren, Ainsley Clucus, Ryan and Michelle Terry.

I would particularly like to thank my cousins ​​Deborah Rogers and Sue Widman for taking me on a daily walk through this very difficult time with words of encouragement and insight. I would also like to thank all of our relatives, neighbors and friends for their prayers and support. My mother was certainly loved by everyone who really knew her.

No services are currently scheduled as she wished to donate her body to Toledo Medical College, but a grave will be held with close family and friends after her remains are returned.

Donations can be made to any Humane Society on their behalf because they loved all of life’s creations.
