Louisiana Bass Anglers high space staff in state event at Toledo Bend | Outside

ZWOLLE – Of three Teche Area bass clubs that fished on Day 1 of the two-day Louisiana Best 6 tournament from April 30 to May 1, the Franklin-based Louisiana Bass Anglers were the furthest away from the top 10.

The LBA’s three two-man teams rallied the next day to finish high and earn money in the 50-bass club field at Toledo Bend. After checking in at £ 24.89 on Friday, they charged a nine bass limit of £ 33.94 for a total of £ 58.83 on Saturday.

Dicky Fitzgerald of Charenton, LBA team captain for winning 2020 Angler of the Year, was proud of Travis Harmon of Lafayette, formerly Franklin; Bubbie Lopez and Gerald Buck, both from Centerville; Mike Louviere from Jeanerette and Levi Louviere from Youngsville, formerly Franklin.

“We were very happy on Saturday because we caught the quality of the fish that we found while scouting. We averaged 3.8 pounds with nine fish on Saturday. That’s not bad at all. I mean, it was kind of crazy. You go up there and compete against people who fish in the lake all the time, ”he said.

The 2021 Louisiana Best 6 champion was Lake Area Bass Club # 2, who broke a £ 38.70 limit on day two to increase their total to £ 63.31. The winner was followed by the runner-up Toledo Bass Club # 19 with £ 61.92 and the Diehard Bass Club with £ 61.32.

The other two bass clubs in the Teche Area stalled after solid performances on Friday.

Atchafalaya Stumpjumpers of St. Martinville, third with £ 32.99 on the first day, finished 14th with £ 54.74. Paul Resweber and his son Braxton Resweber, Larry Champagne, Jimmy Brown and Gavin Savoy did their best.

Iberia’s New Louisiana Bass Cats, seventh at £ 30.30 on Friday, slipped to eleventh place at £ 56.83. Team captain Zach Suit and his brother Ben Suit have teamed up, and their father Kevin Suit has fished with Mike Sinitiere. Hagen Riche and Jordy Russo also fished for the LBC.

LBA did just the opposite.

“We had really good fish. Friday we had a good bag but the bigger fish just didn’t bite, ”he said of the first day when her nine-fish limit weighed 24.89 pounds.

The bigger bass on the second and crucial day when Fitzgerald, Lopez, Harmon and Buck Kajun Boss Outdoors LLC threw spinnerbaits around cypress trees and flipped Missile Baits D Bombs in their hotspot far north of the Pendleton Bridge.

Meanwhile, the Louvieres pounded a 7- and 6-pound bass across the lake on crazy worms to add weight to the team on Saturday. Mike took the 7 to show the way, while Levi got the 6.

“Oh, I mean, it was great. We needed a couple of bigger fish in our pockets to be able to participate in the tournament. You could catch them, ”said Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald, who fished with Lopez, and Harmon, who had mated with Buck, started pre-fishing four days earlier Monday. They found the quality fish between Bison and Circle Drive.

The Louvieres were able to spy on Thursday, the day before the start of the tournament. They fished Housen Bay, said Fitzgerald.
