YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A year ago, First News reports on the death of Brandon Wesleywho was caught in the crossfire while playing basketball in Homestead Park and was murdered.
A year later, his family still doesn’t know who his killer or killers are. On Sunday they held a memorial service in his honor.
Reliable, solid and reliable, this is how family and friends describe Brandon Wesley.
“He was a good friend. He cared. He was really reliable. You could trust him with everything. I told him all my secrets, ”said his friend Jashaud Benson.
Wesley dreamed of becoming a chef and owning his own restaurant.

“He was my Outstanding Senior of the Year, the year he graduated. I had to beg him to go to the ceremony. He said, ‘No cook, I don’t want to go.’ And I said, ‘Brandon, listen, you have to. You are my outstanding senior. You have to come, ”said his cook teacher Tricia Goodnough.
Everyone who tried his meal had a different favorite dish – friend Valar Blair loved his pepperoni rolls, his brother Braylin Smith’s favorite was Wesley’s Alfredo, while his other brother’s favorite was his pineapple bowl.
“He took a pineapple and cut it in half and put rice, chicken, and vegetables in the bowl. It was so epic, ”said his brother Robert Weaver.
He loved anime and basketball.
“We were in a competition when we were growing up. Like we were going to the store and drop by for a Dragon Ball Z shirt and if I had the shirt he couldn’t get it, ”said Weaver.
But his dreams were erased when he was murdered.
“It still hurts. It got better than what it was because it took me some time to realize that he was actually gone, ”Blair said.
Wesley’s mother Lynette Wesley, in her grief, has made it her business to stop the gun violence.
“I still find it difficult every day. It’s a struggle for me to get up every day. I experience the pain every day. So I try to do something positive … If I can help someone else or save another child, I would feel a little better, ”Wesley said.
