Last Wednesday, former Aliquippa star running back Terry Swanson was hired by his alma mater Toledo as Director of Player Development. Pittsburgh Sports Now spoke to Swanson about his new position on his old team.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” Swanson told PSN. “I look forward to working with my Rocket family and trying to turn these young people into successful young men and help them win a championship.”

Swanson said that as a player he always had plans to get into the coaching space so he was excited when the opportunity presented itself. However, this wasn’t the only option Swanson had as an employee.

“I could have hired quality control at Pitt, but I believe this was a better opportunity for me at this point. Being from Aliquippa it was hard to do without but this is like a home away from home for me. I only stayed here for four years and developed relationships with some of the guys on the team and some of the players and the people of Toledo so it was just a great opportunity. “

Swanson added that he can speak to the incoming and current players on a personal level about the school and campus as he is alum and knows what they are experiencing.

Swanson finished his career in Toledo with 3,601 rushing yards and 31 touchdowns. He made a brief move to the Houston Texans in 2018 and to the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2020 before accepting the job at Toledo.
