Dayton organizers celebrate the upcoming opening of Gem City Market, a new cooperative grocery store in one of the city’s low-income communities.
This market was created in part with the help of a playbook developed here in Cincinnati by the co-op Cincy incubator. This group, which works to promote worker-owned businesses, has created a number of businesses. Efforts to build a market here, however, ran into funding and location barriers.
Joined the Cincinnati Edition to talk about Dayton’s new co-operative grocery store and co-operatives in a broader sense Gem City Market President Amaha Sellassie and Co-op Cincy Managing Director Kristen Barker.
