(WKBN) – Meteorological summer is from June to August. We are closing a season of warm temperatures and lots of water. If you’re under 35, you’ve never had a summer this wet here in Youngstown!
Youngstown, Ohio, weather records are kept at the Youngstown / Warren Regional Airport. They are recorded daily. The summer 2021 numbers were broken with some records when August ended as the sixth wettest month in recorded history, accumulating 9.45 ″ of rainfall. This high amount of rain also made the month a wettest August since recording.
For the entire summer, the airport recorded 20.47 ″ of rainfall. With a seasonal surplus of 8.82 ″, that was well above normal. June ended 1.83 “above normal, July ended 1.02” above normal, and August ended 5.97 “above normal.
We finished Meteorological Summer as the second wettest summer on record in Youngstown, Ohio! The only year that exceeded our grand total of 20.47 was 1986 with a decrease of 20.69 that year.
Also this year the temperatures were warmer than normal. The average maximum value was 81.9 ° (80.5 ° is normal). The average low was 61.5 (normal is 58.3 °). The average temperature was a total of 71.7 °. The normal average temperature for summer is 69.4 °.
We didn’t make it into the top 10 warmest summers. We would have needed an average of 72.9 ° or more to get into the top ten list.

Since it’s a wet summer, expect lots of clouds. That was the case this year. We ended the summer with 40 cloudy days (average 35), 45 partly cloudy days (Average is 37) and only seven clear days (average is 20).
It ended up being a warm and very wet summer here in Youngstown, Ohio. The second wettest since recording!
