After two cricket wireless cell towers recently went live in western Nebraska, the company wanted to build two new locations in the state, including one on-site.
The Cricket Wireless Shop will open at the end of last month Columbus, 2322 23rd St. and Grand Island.
To celebrate, the Columbus site is holding a major opening event on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It offers free service activation, food, backpacks, freebies, and more.
“I think it’s always great when we can start a new business in town,” said Katy McNeil, director of the Columbus Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. “That shows that we are growing.”
The store, which opened on July 30th, is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“We wanted to give our customers the high quality wireless experience they want and are used to,” said Karissa Fletcher, senior marketing manager at Cricket Wireless, who oversees the Columbus market but is based in Minneapolis. “We also wanted to offer them our nationwide network.”
The company offers plans starting at $ 30 per month, access to the 5G network on certain cricket smartphones, and annual contracts. Cricket also offers tariffs that include monthly taxes, which means “the price you see is the price you pay,” Fletcher said.
