Columbus, Ind. – The Columbus City Council met Tuesday evening and passed a resolution to make the city a subsidiary of Bee City USA. Founded in 2012 in Asheville, North Carolina, the organization is dedicated to the preservation of pollinator parks. It is Indiana’s first subsidiary.
The fee for membership in the Bee City USA organization is not funded from the city’s budget, but from the account of the Columbus Parks Foundation.
Columbus Parks and Recreation Department director Mark Jones said the public has expressed a desire for more nature experiences from urban park properties.
