Axon Company will hold a demonstration to show how the camera works, review a summary of guidelines for the body camera, and conduct a question-and-answer session.
YOUNGSTOWN – Youngstown Police are holding a town hall meeting for residents Thursday to discuss the department’s new body cameras.
Sgt. Jose Morales, Jr., who oversees the body camera program for YPD, said Axon Company will hold the meeting Thursday at 6 p.m. at East High School gym, 474 Bennington Ave.
Scheduled for the meeting are a demonstration of the devices, a summary of the new body camera guidelines and a question-and-answer session.
“[YPD wanted] to make the public aware that they are coming, ”Morales told Mahoning Matters.
Since May 20, 16 officers have been working in different shifts Test run of the Axon Body 3 Cameras.
The department is currently looking into federal grants to pay for the body cameras equip every officer this summer.
Morales said the YPD body camera policy was still ongoing.
However, the town hall will discuss the part of the policy that applies to the public, including when officials turned on the cameras or whether they would be used by someone who does not want to be recorded when entering the house.
