Who’re the Cincinnati breakout candidates in 2021?

The Cincinnati Bengals have a handful of notable breakout contenders heading into the 2021 season.

That goes without saying for a smaller market team that does not receive much national attention, especially since it has not been doing very well for a number of years. Add a complete roster overhaul and the breakout potential is huge.

Interesting, Jay Morrison of The Atheltic has just named Jessie Bates as the team’s biggest breakout contestant, citing the lack of attention and snub for his elite game so far:

“Bates could reset the security market early in his contract year. Bates, a 2020 Pro Bowl snub, had a great season despite playing behind the league’s worst pass frenzy. But the Bengals invested in the defensive line by free hand and draft, which should result in a lot more pressure and sacking. And that in turn will give Bates the opportunity to have more groundbreaking moments that come with his consistently high level of play. “

Bates could certainly “break out” nationally in 2021 – and he could certainly improve, as does his surroundings, and he’s not trying to put out so many fires at once.

However, other interesting breakout candidates are:

  • OT Jonah Williams
  • TE took a test
  • EN Sam Hubbard
  • LB Logan Wilson

When it comes to Bates, he’s already clearly one of the best in the NFL at what he does. Williams and the others listed above still have a chance to make this summit.

And the Bengals have to hope they do too, given the investments used to turn these players and their significance into a turnaround.
