What’s the Metropolis of Toledo doing to maintain dumping?

Central Toledo residents are concerned about cleaning it themselves as there are safety hazards, including the possibility of needles hidden in the rubble.

TOLEDO, Ohio – Help us keep our neighborhood clean. That is the message from two of Toledo’s central neighbors tonight.

It is said that a cycle path under the I-280 is not only dirty but also dangerous.

Bottles, cans, broken glass, and plastic bags are just a few of the things that cover the hill next to a bike path under I-280.

Mixed with stones, tall grass, and weeds, neighbors say it’s easy for someone to get hurt.

“Areas like this are overgrown and we took care of them. And we used to have a really good relationship with the city of Toledo,” said Larry Warnimont.

Warnimont has worked with Alfonso Narvez of the One Village Council for more than a decade to clean up their neighborhood.

Now they say they need more help than just a few volunteers.

“It’s filled with large pebbles so it’s a little difficult to walk, but our biggest concern is also that needles are found. I did some cleanup myself, I found some needles. It’s just not safe, local Bring volunteers down here, “Narvaez said.

WTOL 11 reached out to the city about concerns.

The mayor’s office says this is the first time anyone has reported the problem and a Clean Toledo team should be down within the next two days.

Both men say this is a bigger problem and the neighborhood needs to be strengthened.

“Right now I also realize that this is a very small piece of cake for the city to work with and I’m sure if we call them they will come. But someone has to call,” said Warnimont.

In the long term, both would like additional lighting and trash cans in the area to reduce landfill.
