CLEVELAND – Friends and family gather for a public vigil on Wednesday for Wilbert McCormick, a former Cleveland firefighter who was shot and killed last summer.
McCormick, 62, was shot dead on July 21 last year while walking with his wife in Forest Hills Park. He later died of his injuries at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.
Exactly a year after his death, McCormick’s killer remains at large, and his loved ones continue to campaign for justice in the case. This will be one of the first public services to celebrate McCormick’s life as his 2020 funeral has been restricted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Participants will gather in Arlington and Eddy Roads where McCormick was shot. His widow is expected.
