The Detroit Tigers optioned right-handed rookie Matt Manning to Triple-A Toledo after its start on Friday.
Manning is likely to resume after the All-Star hiatus, and Hinch said he could start the series against Texas July 19-22.
The move creates space for the Tigers to activate veteran left-hander Derek Holland from the 10-day injured list on Saturday.
Holland, 34, had been on the IL since June 10 with a left shoulder infection.
In 14 appearances earlier this year, Holland had a 9.60 ERA in 15 innings with 20 strikeouts and nine walks.
Holland will provide the Tigers with an extra arm on Saturday’s Bullpen Day against the Minnesota Twins. Right-handed Kyle Funkhouser will start for the Tigers and will likely line up a couple of innings.
Manning, 23, went to 1-3 in five starts with an ERA of 6.95 since the call from Toledo three weeks ago. He has eight walks and nine strikeouts in 22 innings.
