Take a ‘Frolic on the Subject’ on July 24 in Toledo | Neighborhood

TOLEDO – While most of the annual summer events were canceled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many of them will return this year, at least in some ways.

Frolic on the Field is a one-day event starting July 24th at 1:00 pm at Memorial Field in Toledo. The event, a shortened version of the annual Toledo Summer Festival, continues to be fun for the whole family.

“What used to be a three-day carnival and vendors event won’t be this year,” said Kim Duty, a member of the Toledo Summer Festival Committee and one of the organizers of this year’s event. “COVID has severely affected our fundraising efforts.”

But, as they say in the entertainment business, the show has to go on.

New to the event this year is a car show where more than 50 vehicles are expected, including vintage cars, motorcycles and forest vehicles.

Frolic on the Field also features a baking competition, a lumberjack show for children and teenagers, karaoke, bounty ax throws and wrapper throws.

It will be available for food and a beer garden all day and the fireworks will start around 10 p.m.

Entry to the celebration is free.

The 120 year old event has seen many changes over the years and while this year is very different from previous festivals, organizers hope it has the same spirit.

“We want to keep the community on the ball,” said Duty. “We will try to imitate as best we can to keep the festival fun without having the full festival. It will be a lot less formal than in the past. But we count on our community to support it. “

Duty said the planning committee also needs volunteers.

“We’re a volunteer group and we only rely on donations and support from our community members,” said Duty. “We’re also a 501 (c) 3, so donations could be tax-friendly. ”
