CLEVELAND – A 25-year-old man is dead after a police chase ended in an accident on the east side of Cleveland on Wednesday night.

Authorities say officials near East 93rd Street and Dickens Avenue “were conducting a violent crime ban” when the suspect rammed his vehicle into one of the police cruisers before escaping. After a “brief chase”, the suspect’s car hit a post and overturned near East 111th Street and Forest Avenue.

A shot was fired inside the vehicle, officials said, and rescue workers say the suspect died from a possible gunshot wound to the head. The police deny that their officers used any form of violence.

In addition to the deceased, the Cleveland Division of Fire told 3News, there was also a 65-year-old man in the car. He refused any local medical treatment.

The Cleveland Division of Police says they are investigating the incident.
