YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – In-person tuition at Martin Luther King Elementary School (MLK) is canceled Friday.

District officials said a small fire in the school building will force them to hold classes remotely on Friday March 19.

The building was not damaged, but the crews need time to clean it up and to dispel the smell of smoke.

District sixth through twelfth grade students who have chosen the hybrid option attend the personal learning school on Mondays and Fridays. MLK is a preschool kindergarten through eighth grade, so the change will affect sixth through eighth grades of this school.

The school staff will teach from home.

The change only applies to MLK. All other 6th to 12th grade students who have chosen the hybrid option should contact the school for personal instruction.

School district officials expect the schedule to return to normal on Monday, March 22nd.
