The American Legion’s Operation Comfort Warriors (OCW) program is the main sponsor of one of the largest regattas in the country, the Saturday’s Head of Cuyahoga Regatta in Cleveland.
The full day regatta will include a veteran race. The OCW scholarship includes sponsorship as well as a boat, oar, and rack at the popular event, now in its 25th year.
In addition, the American Legion Department of Ohio plans to set up booths where they can chat with members and other veterans.
The Cleveland Rowing Foundation (CRF) has partnered with the Western Reserve Rowing Association to expand their rowing program in the Veterans League. This year-long program teaches the basics of rowing in a coed team setting with the aim of competing with skill advancement at an appropriate level. Participants begin by learning the basics of rowing and join seasoned military and veteran rowers as confidence and skills improve. The program is included for disabled veterans including amputees.
