COLUMBUS, Ohio – Columbus has a new vaccination incentive program and health officials say it is already producing results.

Columbus Public Health’s “Vax Cash” program started on Tuesday.
“On the first day we had twice as many people who showed up for the vaccine than on Tuesday,” said Health Commissioner Dr. Mysheika Roberts.
On Wednesday, she said almost five times as many people came to town to get vaccinations compared to a typical Wednesday.
Franklin County residents who are still in need of their first COVID-19 vaccine are eligible for Vax Cash, a $ 100 gift card. The incentive arises when concerns about new COVID-19 variants increase.
“The Delta variant, which is a severe variant, probably the most severe variant we’ve seen so far in this pandemic, has arrived in Ohio and Franklin County,” Roberts said.
Ciera Farley got her “Vax Cash” this week.
She said she drove to two vaccination centers on Thursday.
“There were queues everywhere else,” said Farley.
She said she didn’t know about the Vax Cash incentive, but her husband did. Both were vaccinated in the Bhutanese Community of Central Ohio.
“It (“ Vax Cash ”) gives people a boost to actually get it done because a lot of people don’t want to do it. That’ll give people the extra boost, ”Farley said.
“Vax Cash” is offered in the walk-in clinic Columbus Public Health and at two other locations that change daily.
It is available Monday through Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. until stocks last or until August 16.
