YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Michael J. Bauman, 70, died Saturday morning July 3, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital with his family by his side.
Michael, affectionately known by many as “Mikey B”, was born on March 26, 1951 in Youngstown, the only child of the late Michael and Mary Stevens Bauman.
He lived in the Mahoning Valley all his life and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1969. After graduation, Mike worked in the steel mills until he was drafted into the US Army in May 1971. He served as a military policeman during the Vietnam War until he was honorably discharged with the rank of Private First Class in July 1972.

Returning to the area after completing his military service, Mike returned to the steel mills until 1982. He then continued his career as a truck driver with the Italian Baking Company, later DeNiro Cheese, and retired in 2013 after 25 years of service. A sociable person and very sociable, Mike was the perfect bartender who worked part time for Tangier and Georgetown for many years.
In his spare time, Mike enjoyed spending time with friends bowling in the Hollywood Tavern Bowling League, billiards shooting, and part of the Tanger’s Bocce and Dart League. Mike was particularly fond of his family’s company. Together they created many lasting memories at the dining room table while playing Cards Against Humanity on the weekends, camping trips on Lake Berlin and campfires in the backyard and meeting friends. Mike’s other favorite hobbies included playing classic video games, cheering on the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes, and treasuring the most unique and outrageous Christmas ornaments each year to decorate his own tree. Mike is a fun-loving and all-round personable guy. He will be fondly remembered for his ability to make everyone smile with his jokes and the most unusual sayings.
He leaves behind his wife, the former Roberta “Robin” Frederick, whom he married on September 19, 1981, and his daughter Sarah Bauman from Youngstown.
There are currently no office hours or services, but there will be a celebration of life later this summer.
