Glen R. Leach, 72, of Cleveland, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Wednesday, August 11, 2021. He was born on August 16, 1948 in Whitley County, Kentucky, to John Leach and Mary Leach Roberts.
Glen was a man of strong faith who loved the Lord Jesus Christ and a loyal prayer fighter for his family and friends. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He graduated from Bradley Central High School in 1966, where he studied baseball, football, and athletics. He continued to play baseball for Cleveland State Community College. Glen then proudly went on to serve his country as Navy Seabee, NMCB1 Battalion, during the Vietnam War, where he received the National Defense Service Medal, the FMF COI / Expert Rifleman Medal, and the Bronze Star for Valor. In 2000 he retired from the Bowater Paper Mill. He was an avid amateur radio operator, active in the local Cleveland Amateur Radio Club, and served as a relay operator for the National Weather Service during local storms.
Glen was preceded in death by his father John W. Leach and grandparents Jess & Fannie Hill and Millard & Amanda Leach.
He leaves behind his beloved wife and best friend of 52, Karen Kendrick Leach; his children Coby Leach and Joseph & Leslie Leach Davis; his beloved granddaughter Cameron Davis; Mother, Mary Leach Roberts; Sister and brother-in-law Kathy & David Meadows; Sisters and Sisters-in-Law: Cheryl & Barry Hooper, Denise & Terry Morrow; as well as many nieces and nephews.
We thank Dr. Don Robinson, Glen’s family doctor in VA, for his kindness and friendship over the years – as have the many other medical staff at the Chattanooga VA Clinic. Finally, we are so grateful to the Hearth Hospice nurses for loving care for our husband and father. They allowed him to be at home with family and friends while he prepared for the transition from his earthly body to his heavenly home.
The visitation will take place on Tuesday, August 17th, at Candies Creek Baptist Church from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by a service. A funeral service with full military honors will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery the next day.
