Idea Studio hosts summer season market in downtown Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Steel Town Studios and Friends Summer Market was held at the Concept Studio in downtown Youngstown on Saturday.

Local artist Bob Barko Jr. held the event after a long year of no art exhibits during the pandemic. The idea of an art market started with some of his friends around Christmas 2020.

“It’s a continuation of our Steel Town Studios and Friends Christmas Market that we did last year. That was out of necessity, so to speak. We’re at a point where there wouldn’t be any Christmas shows last year, ”said Barko.

Barko said it was hard not to see his usual customers.

“I’m really looking forward to this year and listen, this was born out of necessity. I think it will be a great tradition between friends and then hopefully be welcome, make some money and see a lot of good people coming down and talking about art, ”said Barko.

The art ranges from t-shirts and jewelry to repurposed stage and studio lights as well as paintings by Will Duck Jr. and hand-lettered home accessories.

“We have six artists here and each has a very unique and diverse collection of artists,” said Barko.

The event continues on West Federal Street from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday.
