Gold Medal winner Nelly Korda amongst world’s greatest golfers coming to Toledo for Solheim Cup


(WXYZ) – The world’s best female golfers are coming to Toledo for the 2021 Solheim Cup on Labor Day weekend.

The tournament between the USA and Europe takes place every two years and will be played in 2021 at the Inverness Club, a historic Donald Ross square.

The event also brings celebrities to Toledo, which is only about an hour from Metro Detroit, for the BMC Celebrity Match on Thursday, September 2nd at 2pm

Some of America’s best, including 2020 Olympic gold medalist Nelly Korda, will compete for the United States. She is at the top of the Solheim Cup points list, followed by Danielle Kang, Ally Ewing, Austin Ernst, Lexi Thompson and Jessica Korda.

In the European team, Emily Kristine Pedersen is at the top, followed by Sanna Nuutinen, Sophia Popov, Carlota Ciganda, Charley Hull and Georgia Hall. There will be six captain tips.

It takes place on three days, starting on Saturday and ending on Labor Day. On weekends there are games both in the morning and in the afternoon – four-a-side games in the morning and four-ball games in the evening.

On Labor Day, the last day, twelve individual games will be played.

Team Europe won the last Solheim Cup 2019 in Gleneagles with a score of 14 1/2 to 13 1/2. The Americans would have to win 14 1/2 points this year to recapture the trophy.

Tickets for the event are on sale in advance, and weekly parking tickets with full week access are $ 175. Training lap tickets are $ 45 and weekend tournament tickets are $ 75. Children are free to practice rounds, and $ 20 for competitive rounds.

Active service, military retirees, active reserve, National Guard and their spouse or partner can receive free tickets during the practice days, Tuesday-Friday, regardless of a possible sell-out.

Wednesday September 1st Health professionals can also get free tickets regardless of a sell-out.
