COLUMBUS – Thursday was a senior night for the Columbus Prep Girls volleyball team, so before the Cardinals game against Cambridge each senior received a bouquet of roses – each smelling of happiness.
The result was floral too.
The Cardinals finished the first set with 13 of the last 14 points and it was nothing but bliss the rest of the way. Columbus won 25-11, 25-15, 25-9 to put an arc on the festivities of the night.
Winning was one thing, but the way Columbus won was what coach Aileen Heller noticed the most.
“My biggest achievement,” she said, “would be how the seniors ran the team tonight and how they could pass and dig the ball and then do their job on the net and lead us to kills.”

The seniors actually drove the bus, with Molly Kahl and Jordan Link joining Junior Lauren Henry for five piece kills, Mckenzye Bruss adding four assists and 13 digs at team level, and Peyton Priem walking up and down with blocks four.
Senior Micaela Zittel was also part of the group that was honored on Thursday evening. And while not topping any stats category, senior defensive specialist Hannah Fox had a big hand starting the party.
In the first set 6-5, Fox’s ace led the Cardinals 7-5 – the first two-point lead for both sides as they’d been swapping points by then – which resulted in a 6-1 run it 11-6. She also ended that run by putting in an ace between two kills for the final three points.
