YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Members of the Youngstown Rotary Club took time Wednesday afternoon to show their appreciation for those who protect us.

The organization presented its annual Safety Service Awards to representatives from the police, fire brigade and health care sectors.

The group’s president says these employees ensure the safety of those who live and work in the city and that they need to know they are valued.

“You don’t know if you have COVID when you do the contact tracing, when you comfort someone because their house just burned down or they are the victim of a crime. Our first responders are of the highest level in town for us, ”said Samantha Turner, president of the Youngstown Rotary Club.

Recognized this year includes Officer Shakir Perkins from the Police Department, Nurse Anthea Mickens from the Health Department and Lieutenant Corey Brown from the Fire Department.
