POWELL, Ohio (WCMH) – It’s Military Appreciation Week at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.

To honor the week and to honor the soldiers, the monument of the company Eyes of Freedom Lima is exhibited.

The memorial arrived Tuesday with a motorcycle and a police escort.

The monument with life-size portraits was created for the 23 men of the Lima Company 3/25 who died in the 2005 Iraq war. Artist Anita Miller completed it in 2008 and the memorial is now traveling across the country.

“We’re just blessed to be back,” said Mike Strahle, executive director of the Eyes of Freedom Memorial. “We do an average of about 30 events a year and last year it was our best to do six or seven.”

The memorial, which is on display in the zoo until Sunday, will use its aluminum outdoor displays.
